How to find a niche market The two most asked questions I get are: ‘How do you find a niche market?’ and ‘How do you know if a niche market will be profitable?’. I can tell you from first hand that nobody can guarantee a profitable blog or business besides you. Your hard work, perseverance, patience and consistency are going to bring you success. It may take 3 months or it may take a year but following your passion will get you to earn money online.

Furthermore, there are a number of sites that can help answer these questions. Many of the websites that I will cover publish market research reports, statistics, and trends. A variety of other services release the amount of times keywords and key phrases are searched for per day or per month. Finding your niche market is going to be easy by utilizing the resources that I will share with you.

How To Find A Niche Market – 10 Resources I Use

1. If you are considering starting a blog or any website, Google Trends is an essential tool to have in your marketing tool box. You can use Google Trends in two ways. The first is by looking up hot trends which means that Google will show you what the hottest topics and keywords people are searching for on the internet. The second way is for you to insert keywords or topics and Google Trends will compare the interest in your selected niche markets. As an example, I entered the niches tea and coffee and through the data I found out that coffee had significantly more interest (as shown in the picture below). Find a Niche Market With Google Trends As you can see in the image above, Google also shares related terms with you to help you with brainstorming for a niche market. If you choose to, you can compare up to 5 topics and discover how many times each keyword has been searched for on Google. You can also determine which geographic regions have searched for the terms you inserted the most frequently.

2. Go to Magazines.com and on the homepage you will see their top 10 magazines. At the time of this writing, the top 10 magazines included Popular Science, Time, Good Housekeeping, People, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, First for Women, and Redbook. Through this brief research I was able to see what the most popular topics are and they include sports, celebrity news, science, women’s issues, entertainment (movies and TV Shows), and photojournalism.

3. Check out popular.ebay.com as it will show you the top products on eBay. You can also specify a category or sub category and it will show you the top products. It is a great tool if you want to find niche products to promote on your website through affiliate marketing or if you want to start your own business.

4. Yahoo’s Trending Now features the top 10 key phrases and the most popular articles being shared throughout the internet. It is updated daily and is a good alternative to Google Trends to find a niche market.

5. comScore Data Mine offers insights into consumer behavior and provides statistics of market trends. Through the data provided by comScore you will be able to determine which market sector is growing, which niche market is popular in a certain country, what age groups buy specific products, and so on. It is useful information to help you figure out which new niche markets to do business in.

6. Amazon also provides market research data that will help you find niche market products. For example, if you click on the category ‘books’ you will see links for the best sellers, hot new releases, movers & shakers, and most wished for. With this data you can either figure out what topics are popular and start a niche blog, sell products in that niche, or you can start a related business.

7. MySimon, which is a comparison shopping website, provides a top searches page which is great for finding affiliate marketing niches. You can click on any sub category and a list of the top searches will come up. With this data you will be able to find niche marketing ideas.

8. Visit hashtags.org to see all of the trending hash tags on twitter. Hash tags are a way for people to label their tweets for a bigger audience. Hashtags.org even provides data and you can easily see the popularity of that keyword or topic and decide to do more research.

9. Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a free keyword research service that provides statistics on how many times a specific keyword or key phrase has been searched. This will also provide you with the level of competition for keywords.

10. Micro Niche Finder is one of many keyword research tools I use to find highly searched and low competition keywords. One of the features of Micro Niche Finder is that it helps you brainstorm ideas. While researching keywords it even has a built in search to check out what products you can promote through Amazon and ClickBank.

Check out this video as it shows you one of the many features.

Take advantage of the sites I recommended to determine the profitability of a niche market BEFORE you decide to start a website or business in that area of interest. Here are 10 Proven Ways To Make Money Online if you are looking to make money on the side.
